During the Apollo mission to the moon in 1969 the Parkes Observatory was used to relay communication to NASA. The main observing instrument is the 64-metre (210 ft) movable dish telescope, second largest in the Southern Hemisphere.

The Dish can be viewed from the car park or you can access the tourism complex and get a bit closer.
There are informative displays ,a shop ,Cafe and accessible amenities inside.
A grassed area outside provides photographic opportunities and viewing of the Dish.
